Privacy Policy

1. Who we are

Lightworks is a personal finance and stock-tracking application. When we say "Lightworks", "we", "us", or "our" in this policy, we mean the operators of this application. Questions? Email us at LightworksSupport@gmail.com.

2. Information we collect

We collect only what is necessary to run the service:

• Account information — your name and email address, provided when you sign up via Google, GitHub, or email. This is handled by our authentication provider, Clerk.
• Watchlist data — stock symbols, optional notes, share counts, and average cost figures you enter. Stored in our database linked to your user ID.
• Session activity — a simple points tally tracking your in-app engagement. No browsing history or page-level tracking is performed.
• Location (optional) — city and state you choose to set in Settings, stored locally in your browser (localStorage). Never sent to our servers.

3. Information we never collect

• Your brokerage login credentials or account numbers
• Real-time portfolio value or net worth
• Bank account or payment card details
• Device identifiers, IP addresses, or fingerprints
• Any data from third-party financial institutions without your explicit consent

4. How we use your information

We use collected information solely to:

• Authenticate you and maintain your session
• Store and display your watchlist and portfolio data
• Provide regional price comparisons when you opt in to location features
• Respond to support requests you submit within the app

We do not sell, rent, or trade your personal information to any third party.

5. Optional data sharing

You may choose to share anonymized, aggregated data such as usage patterns or portfolio performance metrics to help us improve the app. These options are opt-in and controlled from the Privacy preferences page. Turning them off does not affect any app functionality.

6. Third-party services

• Clerk — handles authentication and stores your name and email. Subject to Clerk's Privacy Policy.
• Yahoo Finance — used to fetch real-time stock quotes. No personal data is sent to Yahoo Finance.
• BigDataCloud — used for reverse-geocoding to identify a city when you use current-location features in Weather or Profile. Only your GPS coordinates are sent; no account information.

7. Data retention & deletion

Your watchlist and account data are retained as long as your account is active. You may request deletion of your account and all associated data at any time by emailing LightworksSupport@gmail.com. Deletion is completed within 30 days of a confirmed request.

Location data stored in your browser (localStorage) can be removed at any time from the Settings page using the "Remove location" button.

8. Security

All data in transit is encrypted via HTTPS/TLS. Sensitive credentials are managed by Clerk and never stored in our own database. We do not log or store authentication tokens beyond the active session.

9. Children's privacy

Lightworks is not directed at children under 13. We do not knowingly collect personal information from anyone under 13. If you believe a child has provided us with personal data, please contact us and we will delete it promptly.

10. Changes to this policy

We may update this policy from time to time. When we do, we will revise the "Effective" date at the top of this page. Continued use of Lightworks after changes are posted constitutes acceptance of the revised policy.
